“Thank you so much for [Katie’s] inspirational talk. Your stories, your insight and the framework you have brought forth invite folks into the conversation around how we can make inclusion for all a reality. If shifting mindsets is your learning target, you hit the bullseye.”
—Lindsay, Program Coordinator, Simon Fraser University
“My favorite part of the Autism Conference was Shelley Moore’s keynote. She provided insightful and practical strategies for supporting diverse learners in the classroom. Her storytelling and real-life examples made the information engaging and easy to relate to. I walked away with new perspectives on inclusion and ways to better support my students.”
—Conference Participant, Children’s Autism Services
“Laurie is amazing! The honest, vulnerable, and hilarious ways in which she presents her understanding and personal story speaks directly to my heart and soul. She helped me feel seen and safe. At the same time, I learned a million ideas that I can use in my Kindergarten classroom …Laurie is a gift to us all.”

A Collective of Lived Expertise
Working Together to Change Our Aim in Education
Outside Pin Consulting is a community of educators, families, researchers, speakers, facilitators, self-advocates, consultants, and specialized support and service providers, each making changes in their own lanes of lived experience.
Together, we’re dedicated to provoking thinking, teaching and learning from each other, and fostering inclusive practices throughout education and the world. As a collective, our goal is to advocate and educate to create positive change that ensures ALL students are welcomed into inclusive neighbourhood classrooms and schools and provided equal and equitable educational opportunities.
And how do we do this? We aim for the students who are the hardest to reach…because if we can get to them, we will get to everyone.

What is an Outside Pin?
In bowling, the outside pins are the two pins in the outer corners of the formation. They are the hardest to reach, but if we aim for them, they have the biggest impact on the rest of the pins.
To us, being an Outside Pin means bringing distinctive perspectives and experiences that exist on the periphery of established norms. We have unconventional points of view that disrupt thinking in productive ways that provoke and inspire folks to consider new possibilities. It’s about having the courage to stand out while maintaining a strong collaborative spirit.
